Buzz Waterston has been serving his patients in Wallingford for over 20 years. During that time he has consistently offered excellent care through his commitment to continuing education and state of the art technology. Continuing Education: Buzz Waterston always has gone well beyond the state requirements for continuing education. In 1998-1999, he has attended over 165 hours of continuing education courses. In 2000 alone, he attended over 130 hours of dental courses. Buzz figures that, in over 35 years of practice, he’s spent over a full year of his life on continuing education courses, and that craving for knowledge is just as strong today as it was when he was a newly-minted dental school graduate. He is an active member of the Internet Dental Forum and the Crown Council E-mail Network, and receives an average of over 100 e-mail messages daily from leading-edge dentists around the world. His e-mail mentors include some of the world's top speakers on implants, air abrasion, high-tech dentistry, and anesthetic techniques. Dr. Waterston subscribes to newsletters on advances in dentistry. His weekly study group includes a periodontist, an oral surgeon, an orthodontist and other general dentists. Achievements: Buzz Waterston was invited to speak on "TENS and Superior Gentleness in Dentistry" at the 1999 annual meeting of the Society for Advanced Dentistry in Breckenridge, Colorado. In 2002, he gave a hands-on course to the Internet Dental Forum on Using Spray and Stretch Technique. This technique, developed by JFK’s physician, Dr. Janet Travell, over 50 years ago, is used by physical therapists to relax tender muscles. Very few dentists are trained in this technique; to Dr. Waterston’s knowledge, it is not taught in any dental school in the United States. Of all of Dr. Waterston's achievements, he is most proud of the many, many children he has seen grow up without dental fear; of the beautiful smiles he has created and the way he has made people feel better about themselves; and the wonderful long term relationships of 10, 15, 20 years and longer, that he has achieved with some truly wonderful patients. Community Service: Buzz Waterston has been involved in the annual spring Smiles for Life fundraiser for children's charities since its inception. His office has raised over $65,000. Half of that money gets distributed to over 200 children's charities through Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation. The other half is distributed to charities active in Delaware Country. He tries to pick charities that “fly under the radar” and are heavily dependent on local support. His fundraising efforts and introduction of new technology have brought him appearances in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily Times, Fox29 News, and local ABC TV News. Hobbies and Interests: Woodworking, including some of the furniture and many of the accent pieces in both his home and office. Singing has been a lifelong interest. Fishing Gardening Treating his patients as they would want to be treated, and going that extra mile to assure satisfaction has always been Dr. Waterston's credo.
